Of Marriage and Mail Archives November 21, 2010

The service desk called recently regarding someone who when forwarding or replying from her mail archive was sending messages using her maiden name.
I recommended they change the mail owner on the archive to the current married name and all should be right with the world. No change button was present, however.
I looked at the ACL on the archive and sure enough, she only had editor access and therefore couldn’t change the mail file owner.
The archive was over 5 GB in size and I didn’t want to have to copy it to the server or my PC to fix the ACL and then copy it back and I didn’t have rights to map a drive to her PC to fix it remotely.
Earlier in the day I had installed Nomad 8.5.2 on a 2 GB USB stick. I took my portable Notes client to her PC, closed her Notes, launched my client, browsed to her archive and opened it to change the ACL and mail file owner. Customer happy.
Thank you Nomad for the five-minute fix.
