With Google’s recent announcement of allowing the sending of 10 gigabyte files via Google Drive, Gmail and Drive – a new way to send files, we have come a long, long way.

This is 400 times larger than Google’s current 25 megabyte limit.

In cleaning out my mail archive, I ran across the following in an email from May of 2000:

“Sorry about making this a zip file, but there is a 8K limit on email still.”

An 8K limit?

10 gigabytes is more than 1.3 million times larger than that 8K limit.

We certainly have come a long way.

BlackBerry PlayBook Disappointment February 25, 2012

Two Fridays past, I powered up the PlayBook to watch movies with my girls.

Rented a movie via Amazon Video on Demand as I have many times on my PlayBook since I have had it. Hooked it up to the home TV via HDMI and hit play.

The movie played for at most ten seconds before playback stopped with a pop-up about an Adobe Flash version problem and that an upgrade would be needed.

Tried the normal troubleshooting with closing the PlayBook browser, restart the PlayBook. No go.

Rented a movie from Google’s YouTube store. It pretended to load, never did, never played and no error received.

From searching the crackberry.com forums, it seems the encryption being used by Amazon (and I assume Google as well) has changed and the PlayBook has been left out in the cold, until, I assume, RIM fixes the embedded Flash version on the device.

This was all prior to the PlayBook OS 2.0 upgrade. Same results after the OS 2.0 upgrade.

The most used feature of the PlayBook for me is now broken.

A video store has been added to OS 2.0 but the selection is paltry compared to what is offered by both Amazon and Google.

Would also be nice to natively support multiple Google calendars via ActiveSync instead of having to resort to hacks.

I really, reallly want to like the PlayBook and want RIM to succeed but am finding myself with fewer reasons to pick up the PlayBook and use it.

Issue with Multiple User Deletes in BES for Domino February 25, 2012

Learned this one the hard way so I am sharing it.

I was doing some cleanup of BlackBerry users in BES for Domino and I noticed the option in the image below didn’t show when deleting multiple users.

The users were deleted from the BES but the profile documents and state databases in Domino were effectively orphaned.

According to this RIM KB article, it is a known issue and yet to be fixed.

Workaround is to manually delete the profile documents and state databases.
